Area converters

Area units split along the same metric/imperial line as length, but the conversion factors are squared — which is why a quick mental estimate that works for feet-to-meters goes badly wrong for square feet to square meters. Land measurement adds its own units: the acre (imperial, still standard for US and UK property) and the hectare (metric, standard almost everywhere else). All factors here derive from the exact 1959 international yard and pound agreement definitions.
